Kyrie Irving’s KAI 1: the artist on court
Following the end of his long-running signature line with Nike, Kyrie Irving entered a new chapter in 2023 by signing a five-year deal with Chinese sportswear company Anta, while also taking on the role of Chief Creative Officer. The partnership marked one of the most high-profile athlete moves in the modern sneaker industry and positioned Irving to have deeper creative control over the direction of his footwear line.
After spending time on court in models like the ANTA Shock Wave 5, Irving officially introduced his first signature sneaker with the brand—the ANTA KAI 1. The debut “Artist on Court” colorway reflects Irving’s philosophy of basketball as a form of expression, incorporating design elements inspired by his Native American heritage while visually representing the creativity and fluidity that define his style of play.
The rollout for the sneaker included a limited global launch with releases through Sneaker Politics, Extra Butter, and Nice Kicks, highlighting the cultural crossover between basketball performance and sneaker storytelling. With the KAI 1, Irving framed the next phase of his career around identity, artistry, and creative ownership—reinforcing his reputation as one of basketball’s most expressive players both on and off the court.
